AdSense Application Rejected? Here’s Why, and How to Get Approved

Rejections almost never come down to bad luck. They map to a short, predictable list of content, navigation, and policy gaps — each one fixable before you reapply.

A rejection email rarely explains exactly what went wrong — it points at a general category and leaves you to work out the specifics. In practice, the vast majority of rejections come down to one or more of the following.

1. Thin or insufficient original content

A handful of short pages, or content that reads as generic and interchangeable with thousands of other sites, is the single most common reason for rejection. Google’s reviewers are looking for genuine, substantive value for a reader — not a word count.

2. The site looks unfinished or “under construction”

Placeholder text, broken layouts, missing pages linked from the navigation, or a design that clearly isn’t done yet all signal the same thing to a reviewer: this site isn’t ready for ads.

3. Confusing or broken navigation

If a reviewer can’t quickly understand what your site is about and find its way around it, that’s treated as a real usability problem — not a minor cosmetic issue.

4. Missing required pages

A privacy policy is close to mandatory in practice, and an About/Contact page that establishes who is behind the site matters more than most publishers expect.

5. Duplicate, scraped, or auto-generated content

Content copied or lightly reworded from other sources, or produced in bulk without real editorial oversight, is one of the fastest paths to rejection — and one of the hardest for publishers to self-diagnose, since it’s often unintentional (a scraped image gallery, a syndicated feed, AI output published without review).

6. Ineligible content categories

Certain topics and content types fall outside what AdSense will monetize at all, regardless of how well-built the site is. It’s worth confirming your content category is eligible before investing further in an application.

7. Technical crawl and indexing issues

If Google’s crawler can’t properly access or render your pages — broken robots.txt rules, indexing blocks, slow load times — the review can fail on a technical basis that has nothing to do with your content quality.

What a healthy, approved account actually looks like

Once these fundamentals are in place, the difference shows up quickly in account performance — consistent page views, reasonable engagement, and ad units actually generating revenue across countries and devices, rather than a thin trickle of visits to an incomplete site.

How to actually get approved

  1. Audit against the list above first — content depth, navigation, required pages, technical crawlability, and content originality, in that order.
  2. Fix the fundamentals, don’t just resubmit — reapplying without changing anything tends to produce the same result.
  3. Give it real content depth before reapplying — a small number of genuinely useful, well-structured pages beats a large number of thin ones.
  4. Confirm your content category is eligible before spending more time on the application itself.
  5. Reapply once, properly — rapid repeated resubmissions without changes can work against you.

The same list of fundamentals — content depth, navigation, required pages, technical health — applies to AdMob app approvals too, with the added layer of app-store policy compliance and in-app privacy disclosures.
